For Such a Time As This...
September 22, 2025
The past week has been heavy. The assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10 shook us to the core. Whether we knew him personally or not, many of us have felt a wave of grief that is hard to put into words.
But grief can be holy. Scripture tells us:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction …”
— 2 Corinthians 1:3–4
When the world feels shaken, God meets us in the middle of sorrow. He comforts us, not only for our sake, but so we can be vessels of comfort for others.
Like Esther, we are faced with a choice in how we respond to this moment:
“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).
These words echo to us now. Charlie’s life and death remind us that standing for truth carries weight — and that God calls us to rise with courage in our own spheres of influence.
Read & Pray
Read 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 slowly.
Ask God: Where do I need His comfort right now? Who around me might need it too?
Reflect & Journal
What grief am I carrying?
How might God use this moment to deepen my faith?
What gifts, talents, or opportunities has He placed in my hands “for such a time as this”?
Act & Share
Send a note, text, or prayer to someone who might be hurting.
Share a Scripture or word of encouragement on social media.
Begin one small step of discipleship — reading, praying, or joining with others to grow in Christ.
In the months to come, I’ll be launching new Soul Canvas offerings:
Bible studies for both new and seasoned believers.
Creative online art classes this winter, weaving together faith and creativity as a way to meet with God.
My prayer is that Soul Canvas will not just be a space for healing, but a place to prepare disciples who are ready to bring God’s comfort, courage, and truth to a hurting world.
“Father of mercies, we come to You with heavy hearts. Comfort us with Your presence. Give us courage to rise up for such a time as this, to carry hope and truth to the world around us. Show us how to use what You’ve given us to glorify You. Amen.”
Take a blank page in your sketchbook or journal.
Choose Your Colors
Pick 2–3 colors that represent comfort to you. (For some, it might be soft blues and greens; for others, warm yellows or gentle pinks.)
Create a Background
Wash the page lightly with watercolor or acrylics. Let the colors blend softly, imagining God’s comfort wrapping around you.
Add a Symbol
Once the background dries, add one simple image that reminds you of God’s presence.
Examples: an open hand, a dove, a light, a strong tree, a heart, or even abstract shapes.
Reflect
As you paint or draw, pray: “Lord, thank You for comforting me so that I may comfort others.”
When finished, write a short verse or phrase in the margin (2 Corinthians 1:3–4, or “For such a time as this”).

I am a licensed professional counselor and artist.
Throughout my 16 years as a clinical counselor, focusing mostly on trauma and relationship therapy, the two factors that I have seen bring the most success in healing are faith and creative expression. I believe this is a result of these two elements being at the heart of every human being.
Because of this experience, I have chosen to create Soul Canvas where I will combine my faith and concepts of creativity along with my knowledge of psychology to practice a new model of healing for optimal mental wellness.
My own art practice and prayer are the most vital part of my personal wellness. Sharing my art with others brings me so much joy, that I've also created an online gift shop for you to purchase my original art and gifts. I hope it inspires you on your faith-based, creative healing journey.
